Two Mother’s Day White Wine Picks: Attems Pinot Grigio & Arnaldo Caprai Grecante Grechetto

Ah…spring is in the air.  Everything is in bloom, the mornings and evenings are still cool. The weather is beautiful here in Arizona, so we are eating outside every chance we can get, including this Sunday, for Mother’s Day.

Has spring blossomed near you?  Even if it’s not quite spring where you are, here are two spring “inspired” wines to share at your Mother’s Day table; their flavors are crisp and clean, almost like spring in your mouth!

Attems Pinot Grigio, 2009

The Attems Pinot Grigio comes from the Collio region of Italy, which is known for the most comlex and elegant Pinot Grigio grapes in the world.  This wine is so fresh, you’d think it was hand-picked right from the field!  The flavors of apricot, honeydew melon, and grass tickle the taste buds, but the fruit does not overwhelm the wine.  This wine is light and smooth, with a clean finish.  The Attems pairs well with grilled chicken and pork, as well as light pasta dishes.  This wine retails for approximately $19.00

Arnaldo Caprai Grecante Grechetto, 2011

The Grechetto, a light white wine with a slight fizz, is made from 100% Grechetto grapes, an indigenous variety grown only in Umbria, Italy.  A unique varietal, this wine is perfect for those who like Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc, but would like to try something new.   This wine is crisp, with the zesty flavors of white peach and grapefruit, and a tart mineral finish.    This wine is perfect as a first course wine, such as shrimp cocktail or cheese fondue, or with seafood and light chicken dishes.  Caprai was named “European Winery of the Year” for 2012 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. This wine retails for approximately $18.99
